This page is maintained by War on Homelessness to explain our refund, cancellation, and billing-error practices to donors. It is not legal advice; please review it with your own counsel if you have questions.
Donations are generally non-refundable
All donations to War on Homelessness are voluntary, final, and non-refundable. Because gifts are immediately directed toward rent, food, medical care, and case management for unhoused neighbors, we cannot reverse a donation once it has been used to fund those time-sensitive services.
When we will consider a refund
We will review refund requests on a case-by-case basis when:
- The donation was made accidentally or in duplicate.
- The amount charged differs from the amount you authorized.
- You believe your card was used fraudulently.
Refund requests must be made within 14 days of the original donation. After that window, funds are typically committed to active resident support and cannot be returned.
How to request a refund
Email us at hello@waronhomelessness.net with:
- The email address used for the donation.
- The approximate date and amount.
- A brief explanation of the issue.
We aim to respond within 5 business days and, if approved, coordinate the refund through Buy Me a Coffee within 10 business days. The timing of the credit on your statement depends on your bank or card issuer.
Recurring (monthly) donations
You can cancel or change a monthly membership at any time from your Buy Me a Coffee account. Cancellation stops future charges; it does not refund prior donations.
If a monthly payment fails, Buy Me a Coffee may retry the charge according to its standard schedule. If retries continue to fail, the recurring donation will be canceled automatically.
Tax-deductibility
War on Homelessness is a 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN: 00-0000000 — placeholder; replace with real EIN before launch). Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by U.S. law. We email a receipt for every contribution; please keep it for your records.
